Parks Highway/Talkeetna Spur Road Pedestrian Improvements

Project Overview

The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (ADOT&PF) is designing pedestrian improvements along the Parks Highway between Talkeetna Spur Road and Helena Avenue.  Project components include:

  • Replacement of existing school cross walk with a Parks Highway underpass from Helena Ave to the north side of the Su-Valley Jr./Sr. School driveway;
  • A pathway on the east side of the Parks Highway from the underpass north to the Talkeetna Spur Road; and
  • Elimination of the 20 MPH flashing beacon along the Parks Highway.

Community support and Matanuska-Susitna Borough (Mat-Su) Assembly backing made this a funding priority.  As a result, it advanced to the Statewide Transportation Improvement Plan (STIP) as a Trails and Recreational Access for Alaska (TRAAK) project.  The project team is currently in the preliminary engineering phase, with earliest construction can be expected is in 2016 (pending funding availability).

At key project milestones, the project team will be attending the Susitna Community Council meetings, holding community Open Houses, and sending out project flyers.  Please feel free to contact us at any time.
